EHM - 5

The EHM-5 mini extruder is designed to develop the Hot Melt extrusion technique and allows a continuous working process on a small scale for pharmaceutical research and development. It is an economical benchtop unit that is easy to use and clean, allowing the user to make small batches using little material.

Hot melt extrusion, also known as HME, formulates soluble and insoluble compounds in drug/polymer systems with better bioavailability. The technique consists of the hot melting of polymers to incorporate actives and functions as a binder and/or delayed release-drug.

The EHM-5 structure is built out of a steel plate with anti-corrosion treatment and electrostatic powder painting. The parts that come into contact with the materials involved in drying are all stainless steel. In addition, it has a heating block cooling for water or compressed air.

It comprises conical double screws, which through co-rotation, make the mixture. Twin screws and a vertical extrusion block, for up to 15g (depending on the polymer density), offer a better solution for the downflow of viscous materials. It has a programmable temperature control for three temperatures and an indication of a fourth, all distributed along the extrusion block. Heating is done by electrical resistances and also has a motor speed and torque control.
