Application > Ceramics

Spray dryers have been widely used in the ceramics area for many decades, after being successful in drying bovine milk. Currently, the largest share of ceramic products for civil construction and electronics comes from pressed products dried in spray dryers. The fact that the spray drying technique is quite versatile, allowing what is called “particle planning”, that is, programming the conditions of the spray dryer to obtain particles with properties such as size, shape and density closer to the ideal, makes this very useful for technical ceramics. With air inlet temperatures of up to 600°C and counter-current and ascending flow of materials, spray dryers for the ceramics area have their specificities.

Some examples of spray dryer applications in drying in caramics industries are:

  • Civil construction ceramics (coatings, floors);
  • Ceramics for electro-electronics (insulators, microcomponents);
  • Raw material for handmade ceramics;
  • Ceramic oxides (ferrite, steatite, glass, aluminum oxide);
  • Carbides (tungsten, titanium, tantalum, niobium).
